This year I am turning 48 and so is most of my makeup. It’s old, dirty and it’s cakey when I try and trowel over the dents on my face.
The worry is when you get to my age, is that you are stuck in a makeup rut. Perhaps you’re still wearing the same style of makeup as you did in 1991, and look like an advertisement for Human League tribute band.
My daughter is 22 and gorgeous, as every 22 year old is and she can work a makeup brush like a magician. She has brushes for every part of her face, and the finished makeup is always flawless. So, I asked her advice for makeup for an old bitch as I don’t even know half the brands anymore. I have old Clinque eyeshadows from way back when, and stubby Revlon lipsticks from the chemist that slick onto my teeth, so I look like a crazed lady who sells newspapers on the corner of Menopause and Chinhair Street.
The brand she recommended is Charlotte Tilbury, who is a makeup artist and the British Vogue Contributing Beauty Editor.
As someone who could sand down a tall ship with how rough my skin is, I can never get enough hydration into my face. I am sure I can hear my skin creak sometimes. As I have zero makeup skill about what goes with what, I was thrilled to find out there is a “look” section, where you can learn how to apply a style and buy the kit with all the pretty things to make you look fancy. I think this is a very good deal for what you get for the coins they want in return.
I like makeup and I like how I look with makeup, I just don’t know anything about it and what works and what doesn’t but I will say that Charlotte Tilbury makeup is extremely good quality. Even I can tell that much! Have fun playing with your makeup and enjoy yourself, because you look good for you, not for anyone else.
